Keith Parkinson

Last week, Keith Parkinson passed away after a long battle with leukemia. If you don't recognize the name, chances are you've read a book he's illustrated or played a game that shows off his painting on the box cover. Keith did nearly all of the artwork for EverQuest's box covers. Firiona Vie (the elven wizard on nearly all EQ artwork), was a creation of Keith and Brad McQuaid (former head producer during the early EQ years). During one of the EQ Fan Faires, they held a contest to discover the "real" Firiona Vie, and subsequent depictions of her were modeled after the actual person.

Most people know Keith's work shown on many, many TSR novels and Dungeons and Dragons materials. Other popular fantasy series that he's done work for inclue some of my all time favorites: Shannara, Sword of Truth and the Death Gate Cycle.

Visit Keith's company site and then his personal web site to learn more about his life and artwork!

This is really a heartbreaker. He will certainly be missed by many.

Brad posted a wonderful eulogy on Sigil's site. Keith was the Art Director for Vanguard.

There is also a discussion about Keith on the Vanguard forums.
