Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is not a Hallmark Holiday. In 1978, Congress passed a resolution to proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day in the United States. President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation, making this an official holiday.

If you, or your children are fortunate enough to have living grandparents, please take this day to honor them and let them know how much you appreciate them. Help your children to remember this day and appreciate their grandparents. You may wish to celebrate with a family picnic, work on a family scrapbook, or have photos of the grandparents restored and framed. Share stories about the past. Tell them that you love them.

Grandparents Day falls on Sunday, September 13, 2009.

Don't forget September 11 is Patriot Day in the United States, which was signed into law in 2001, to honor the spirit that brought Americans together in the aftermath of the 9/11/2001 tragedy. Americans are asked to display their flags at half staff, and observe a moment of silence in memory of all the people who died as a result of the attacks.
