Vegetarian Pepper "Steak"

The entire family is now vegetarian and the kids really look forward to trying new meatless dishes. Today I took our favorite pepper steak recipe and converted it to a vegetarian recipe. It was very tasty and healthy and everyone loved it! Let me know what you think.

Vegetarian Pepper “Steak”

2 cups brown rice
1-tablespoon sesame oil (or olive oil)
1-8oz. pkg. Morningstar Farms® Meal Starters™ (vegetarian) Steak Strips
1 medium onion, cut into strips
1 medium green belle pepper, cut into strips
1 medium red bell pepper, cut into strips
¼-cup hoisin sauce
½-teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½-teaspoon soy sauce
1-package Lipton Recipe Secrets Onion Mushroom Soup Mix
1-cup water
1-tablespoon cornstarch

Prepare rice as directed on package.
Heat oil and stir in steak strips, onion, and peppers
Mix together soup mix, cornstarch, water, hoisin, Worcestershire, and soy sauces and add to pan
Stir together until mixture is warm and peppers are as tender as you like.
If sauce gets too thick, you can slowly add a little more water as necessary.
Serve over rice and enjoy!

I don't know how much you care, but I just thought I would let you know that worchestire sauce contains anchovies. Also, typically any soup on the shelf will contain beef or chicken fat as a base. Very few don't contain animal fats even if they are labeled as "Vegetable Soup" or "Cream of Broccoli". Just thought I'd let you know because your "Vegetarian" recipes oddly use vegan sour cream while still adding meat fats. :)

This recipe does not include any animal fats. There are plenty of vegetarian Worcestershire sauces which do not contain anchovies and this recipe does not include any soup with animal fats either. My advice is to shop in vegetarian markets or the vegetarian section of your grocery store.

I don't think that nohbdy meant to offend you, I think they meant to clarify and inform so that people that are new to the vegetarian lifestyle and don't realize (I certainly did not know) that worchestire sauce had anchovies, etc... I would suggest that you type as though all are newbees to the veg lifestyle and say 'Use the vegetarian form of'...

Thank you for the suggestion, Anomymous. That is a good idea. I'm never offended when readers make suggestions. I appreciate it.
